Welcome back to Term 2, 2021. We hope that everyone has had an enjoyable and refreshing break. Term 2 is traditionally a term in which students achieve many learning outcomes as they have now settled into the academic year. I look forward to seeing the progress and achievements of each student during the next few months.
Cross Country
Yesterday our students competed in their cross-country events at Yelarbon State School. We are incredibly proud of the resilience, determination, and sportsmanship that they displayed.
Congratulations to MacKillop for taking away the Cross-Country House Trophy for 2021! Thank you to the staff and parent helpers and spectators on the day and to Yelarbon State School for hosting the event.
Daniel, Riley, Angus, Collette, Kaylah and Jacob all qualified for the Macintyre Zone Cross Country trials tomorrow in Goondiwindi. We wish them the best of luck!
PPF
Thank you to the parents that attended our first PPF meeting for the term. The meeting was very positive and productive, with conversations about the up-and-coming St Maria Goretti Colour Run and other events that will be occurring this term. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday the 19th of May at 3:30pm in the P-2 classroom. Please speak with Christine, Jade or me if you would like to add any items for discussion to the Agenda. We hope to see you there.
ANZAC Day
ANZAC Day – 25 April – is a day on which the Australian community reflects on the sacrifices made by our service men and women to ensure that the freedoms that we enjoy continue. The ANZAC tradition is an important part of our national identity as we recognise many characteristics and qualities that make us all Australian. The various services and marches which are held on this day encourage us to reflect, acknowledge and commemorate the many thousands of men and women who have been prepared to die so that others can enjoy the freedoms we value.
The school values the opportunities we are given to participate in the ANZAC Service held within our local community. Our school will again be participating in the annual ANZAC Day March on Sunday the 25th of April. We request that parents consider bringing their children along so they can proudly represent our school. We will be meeting at 10:30am outside the church to prepare to march to the Memorial Park for the service at 11:00am. Students are to wear their formal uniform.
We will be holding an ANZAC Day liturgy in the 3-6 classroom tomorrow at 9:00am. All are welcome.
NAPLAN Online
This term in Week 4 our Year 3 and 5 students will sit NAPLAN Online. This will assess students in the areas on Reading, Writing, Spelling and Grammar and Numeracy. These tests will be held on Tuesday 11th May to Friday 14th of May. The students will work in the library during this time. It is important that your child is at school each day so that the test can be completed. We will be continuing to conduct practice tests to ensure there is minimal stress leading up to the assessment days. Please remember that this is a national assessment and whilst it provides valuable information on the academic progress of students, it does not define who they are and does not measure their special qualities. Parents will receive a comprehensive report later in the year detailing how your child performed. More information regarding NAPLAN Online will be sent home in the coming weeks. Parents can also access information by going to https://nap.edu.au/naplan/parent-carer-support.
I will be away from Tuesday to Thursday next week as I am taking place on the St Joseph’s Millmerran SRIP (School Renewal and Improvement Process) panel. I will also be away in Week 3 at the termly Toowoomba Catholic Schools Leadership Forum in Stanthorpe. During my time away, Olivia McNamara will be Deputiser. Please direct any matters of urgency to Olivia.
Have a wonderful long weekend!
Yours in education,
Casey Robinson
