From the Principal
Dear parents and carers,
Welcome to the first newsletter of Term 4. It is hard to believe that we only have 7.5 weeks until the end of the school year!
2024 Cent Sale - Our largest fundraiser of the year
Our annual Cent Sale is on the 26th of October. The Cent Sale is our largest fundraiser of the year, run by our Parent Engagement Network (PEN), and all the money raised goes towards school improvement and benefits the students who attend St Maria Goretti. This year our Parent Engagement Network are raising money to purchase a specialised drinking fountain for our students, similar to the ones found here School Fountain and Water Bottle Refill Selector | Civiq.
Please come and see Michelle W, Mandy, or me if you can lend a hand at our Cent Sale this year. Without hard-working volunteers, we will no longer be able to run events such as the Cent Sale. We need more helping hands on the night. At this stage we do not have enough parent helpers to ensure the Cent Sale runs smoothly and effectively. We are looking for people to sell tickets on the night, sell tickets for the raffle/s, help with the catering and behind the bar.
We appreciate your help and look forward to working with you to ensure our Cent Sale is once again a huge success!
The SMG Colour Run
Due to limited parent helpers, unfortunately the SMG Colour Run will be postponed for another year. Our Parent Engagement Network is hoping to run the SMG Colour Run in Semester 1 2025 but can only do so if there are enough people to help out.
All proceeds from school fundraisers, such as the SMG Colour Run, go directly towards the students at St Maria Goretti. In the past the funds the PEN have raised have helped to subsidise school camp, purchase new decodable readers for the students, purchase of all new library books, support the building of our new school playground, buy new formal uniforms for the students to support families, purchase brand new instruments for the year 4-6 students, and so much more.
Please consider putting up your hand to volunteer some of your time at future school fundraising events so that we can continue putting money back into improving St Maria Goretti for current and future students.
Change of role title - APRE to APMI
In our ever-changing world, it is essential for us to continually reflect on how we bring our Catholic identity and mission to life within our school community. This reflection has led all Toowoomba Catholic Schools to collaboratively review the vital role of religious leadership.
As a result in the larger schools, the position of Assistant Principal Religious Education (APRE) has been revitalized with a new focus and title of Assistant Principal Mission and Identity (APMI).
At St Maria Goretti, Mission and Identity is part of the role of the Principal in guiding Catholic pedagogy, overseeing the religion curriculum, and nurturing the religious life of our school. This work is at the very heart of everything we do. This aspect of my role as Principal is essential in ensuring that our Catholic school remains a living witness to Christ’s message as expressed in the Gospels.
In subsequent newsletters more information will be shared about how this role brings to life and shapes our continuing Catholic faith journey.
Awards Night - Award Categories
As we get closer to the end of the year our team starts to consider who will be receiving an award at our Annual Awards Night. Awards Night this year is on Monday the 2nd of December at the church.
Please see the list of awards below and the criteria information associated with each award. It is important to note that none of our awards work on a 'points system', and that student behaviour, attitude and attendance are all important considerations we make when selecting award recipients.
We are proud of the growth and achievements of all our students at St Maria Goretti, however not everyone can win an award. While our Awards Night is partly about acknowledging the success of individuals, it is also about celebrating the many successes of our school as a whole and being proud of our peers.
More information about Awards Night will come home throughout the term.
Yours in education,
Casey Robinson
Principal
Library News
Thank you to everyone who supported our recent Scholastic Book Fair. It was lovely to see the students and parents selecting books together, while raising money for our library.
As a result, we have received a commission of $543 to spend on books and products from Scholastic. This allows us to purchase some new and exciting titles for our student collection.
